Meet Alice – Stormont’s only Green MLA. She plans to save Northern Ireland from the influence of big corporations, while at home she hopes a new baby will save her marriage. Her husband Martin is a controversial historian who is secretly planning an explosive new book, while his boss Danny is fighting to secure funding for his victim support centre. When their friend Claire unexpectedly re-enters their lives, the past and the future are set to collide spectacularly right over Belfast.
Tinderbox Theatre Company has created over forty world premiere productions, exploring topical stories and cutting edge styles, with Northern Ireland’s leading playwrights and theatre artists.
My involvement in Planet Belfast would be two stages. The first stage would mean getting a set of photos used to help promote the show. The images would be a mix of staged and un-staged shots.
The cast of Planet Belfast consists of Conor Grimes, Paul Kennedy, Abigail McGibbon and Tara Lynne O’Neill. I had to get shots of them alone, in small groups and finally a large group. All of the images would be sent out to the daily papers in Northern Ireland such as The Belfast Telegraph and the Newsletter as well as the smaller weekly papers both in and outside of Belfast.
As the actors are all from different areas of Northern Ireland it was important to make sure we had as many different combinations as possible to ensure best coverage of the Planet Belfast performance.
This would be a very quick shoot so to make sure we were ready to go i set up the kit before the cast turned up. I had a work experience student with me so she helped me set up. She also took photos on another camera of the shoot as it progressed. Its not something that happens often but its great having a batch of photos that show how the shoot progresses.
Because this would be a quick shoot the kit i used was fairly basic but easy to move around. The majority of the images were shot using two speedlights with shoot through umbrellas and another speedlight with a Gary Fong snoot fitted to provide a little fill.
The second part of the Planet Belfast shoot will be going back at the end of this week to get the production stills. The production stills can then be used to help advertise and promote the show even further.
And here are the production stills from Planet Belfast!
